Blackberry Supporting Blockchain Innovation
Although Blackberry is no longer competitive in the mobile phone industry, they still maintain much of the infrastructure needed to excel in the biggest tech fields right now, such as cloud computing and blockchain technology. Yesterday they announced a blockchain based platform for securely storing and facilitating medical record exchanges. The company was once a top cell phone service carrier, but their operations are no longer used. They will repurpose their "carrier-grade network operation center" to support a digital ledger in partnership with the biotech incubator ONEBIO. Global Commission to End the Diagnostic Odyssey for Children with a Rare Disease has already been accepted as their first client. The project will allow clients to "buy and sell" real-time data streams through ethereum smart contracts.
Air France-KLM Integrating Blockchain
Blockchain travel ecosystem Winding Tree will support a new system for the major European airline in France. The primary goal is to provide "a more advantageous travel offer for customers which is more profitable for suppliers, in particular by reducing the number of intermediaries." Executive VP for Strategy and Innovation at Air France-KLM Sonia Barriere believes that blockchain will "revolutionise exchanges within the travel industry.” Winding Tree is working with Lufthansa, Swiss Air, Air New Zealand, Austrian and Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings as well. They also assist some major hotel chains in Scandinavia and Baltic Region. The technology can be used to simplify the booking process, launch loyalty programmes, track luggage, improve airport logistics, and prevent overbooking.
