Facebook Trail Of New Blockchain Hires
Although there have been no official announcements by Facebook, they can’t hide the series of new hires and job postings for blockchain related development recently. The company has hired several executives from companies that have done a great deal of research and development in the industry. Recent hires are former president at PayPal and VP of Messenger at Facebook David Marcus, former Instagram product chief Kevin Weil, and head of engineering at Instagram James Everingham as well. Facebook’s DLT-focused research group will likely be looking to solve the problem of user data security breaches, and potentially an in-house payment method through Facebook and, or Facebook Messenger. Facebook is already used by billions world-wide, some of which don’t have access to traditional banking, could they help make a more fair global economy with blockchain technology?
Zebay Major European Expansion
One of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in India has continually been Zebpay. The company is now expanding to 21 other countries in addition to India, and their headquarters location of Malta. The move was made in 2015 when the government in India forced the company to close down their services within the country, but they have since returned. The new platform is called "Zebpay Europe.” and will be offered in Malta, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, and Austria. It includes a mobile app for crypto-to-crypto trading, but will offer euro-crypto withdrawals and deposits on the standard website - these include rewards for using the platform, rather than fees - + 0.25% reward per transaction for all our traders.
IBM Solving India’s Communication Issues
IBM Research vice president and CTO of IBM India/South Asia, Sriram Raghavan has been focused on blockchain solutions regarding the Do No Call registries and mobile number portability for Indian citizens for most of 2018. By next year he hopes that their research will launch a live system. “We have completed proof of concepts and pilots with all the major telecom providers and with TRAI [Telecom Regulatory Authority of India] in this space. We anticipate going into the New Year, we’ll start to see blockchain solutions getting rolled out...
[Blockchain] gives TRAI as a regulator more visibility and spot malfeasance quickly. Mobile number portability too is a multiparty process involving a minimum of two telecom providers, where blockchain can play a role.”
