General Market Outlook
The market has steadily recovered from yesterday’s downturn. Coins are still split between positive and negative percentage change, but substantial growth from a group of top 100 coins by market cap could signal a strong movement over the weekend. Trading volume remains high, but has slowed by $3 billion from yesterday, now trending between $30 billion and $31 billion in 24 hours. Decentraland (MANA), Ravencoin and Tezos (XTZ) are the major stand outs of the top 100 coins by market cap - up over 29%, 17% and 12% respectively in the past 24 hours. The value of Bitcoin (BTC) is nearing $4,100 for +1.0% and a total market dominance of 50.3%, and the value of Ethereum (ETH) is just over $140 for +0.5% change in the past 24 hours. Market cap for the overall cryptocurrency market gained $1 billion, falling to $143 billion total.
Western Union Working Out Cryptocurrency Integration
In collaboration with Thunes (formerly known as TransferTo), an organization working closely with Stellar Lumens (XLM), Western Union will be developing a platform for clients to transfer fiat funds directly to cryptocurrency wallets. TransferTo and Stellar have been working out processes to streamline cross-border payments, while accepting payments from individuals in emerging markets. The partnership will be extremely mutually beneficial. Western Union has lacked a great deal of direct cryptocurrency or blockchain technology research, however, the company has thousands of physical locations and hardware around the world, as well as a massive customer base.
Auction Club Acquires Blockchain Art Registry
Blockchain art registries are very beneficial niche use of the technology. Similarly to how blockchain networks can help prevent counterfeit products being sold through cryptographically secured, unique identifiers for each product - so can art. Artory’ s CEO, Nanne Dekking, is the former vice chairman of Sotheby’s New York. “The decentralisation of blockchain is a security benefit, not a solution. And for the art world, being able to leverage blockchain to provide access to credible data that are free is a huge benefit… We couldn’t pass up this opportunity to acquire millions of data quickly that we can leverage to improve our products.” Auction Club maintains a subscription-only database of sales information from more than 4,000 international auction houses.
Metamask Potential Broadcasts Wallet Information
A recent report by independent development researchers cites that the Metamask browser extension may not be as secure as users would like. Metamask is the leading browser extension wallet for ERC-20 tokens. The issue was raised on Github, where it was highlighted that the default setting is for to all websites a user visits to receive their wallet address. However, the founders of Metamask reject the claims: “We definitely reject all your claims that this is some weird malicious act on our part. That would be the craziest move we could ever make on a totally open source crypto project.”
